With this pop flirtations, club appeal and heavy use of autotune, Erik Sanders definitely isn’t your traditional emcee, planting himself firmly alongside Australia’s new wave of rappers who are experimenting with more global and contemporary sounds. ‘Lonely Club’ continues his mission with infectious results, and despite the title, the track has an upbeat bounce alongside Erik’s half-rapped, half-sung lines.
While the video relies heavily on glitchy VHS aesthetic, it still looks slick – featuring Erik wearing an expensive Vetements shirt, a lady wearing a Kangol (10 points) and a car with a weed leaf air freshener. There’s also a cameo from WVS rapper Travy P and some of Erik’s creative BNE colleagues.
