Hot off the heels of being featuring in an Emmy-nominated commercial for Apple Airpods, Sydney-based producer Young Franco is back with a tantalising visual for his latest single ‘Come Thru’ ft. SonReal and Jalmar, and it’s one of his trippiest videos yet.
Directed by Filipono-Canadian director Khrysta Lloren (AKA NOFAC3), the clip sees Franco and his collaborators go up against claymation villains in a messed up parallel reality (it’s somehow more messed up than the one we’re currently living in which is saying something).
Paying tribute to inspirations like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Radiohead’s ‘Burn The Witch’ music video, the visuals see the trio embark on an old-school road trip to a party-bustling mansion. Naturally, it’s got a badass pool just begging to be dived into. However, instead of fresh, h20-infused reprieve, Franco and his gang end up in an alternate reality, going toe-to-toe with a bunch of claymation monsters that are equal parts horrifying and hilarious.
Speaking on the video, Khrysta explains “When I was conceptualizing for Come Thru, I knew I wanted to create an absurdist fiction through the eyes of Young Franco’s clay character. From sculpting each character’s detail to decorating the set, working behind the scenes was just as surreal as the music video.
“Everything was scaled down to the size of my hands and you can actually see fingerprints on clay which is a reminder that it’s all handmade. Working with Young Franco and the team was so comforting during the late stages of this pandemic which kept our creative juices flowing.”
It’s the type of visual you wouldn’t expect for a track like ‘Come Thru,’ but once you watch it, it’s hard to imagine it being anything else. Be sure to check out the full video below.
