If you’ve never played goon of fortune while listening to Pennywise records at 136 decibels, then you’ve been wasting your life up until this point.

There’s no better feeling than finishing a working week, and no worse feeling than having your TGIF celebrations ruined by the fact that you’ve got $17 in your bank account. That’s where goon has saved us all in our teeange and adolescent years – it’s four litres of boxed goodness that’s cheap as chips and gets the job done efficiently.

Whether it’s straight from the sack or mixed into a cocktail with a splash of no frills OJ, goon is a cult Australian icon – much like Shane Warne, Tonie Carroll, Jessica Mauboy, Corey Worthington & Tommy Raudonikis. That’s why we’re very happy to learn that The Lord Gladstone in Chippendale will be hosting Boxfest: A Festival of the Goon Bag on July 5.

Bathe in goon and all of it’s sexy, silver and reflective glory at Boxfest – which is offering $1 tasting tickets for beverages from Yalumba, Stanley, Berry and Romano casks. Plus, profits from this will be going to charity! Socially-conscious goon? Count me in.

Also on the day, there will be cheese & cabanossi plates, because why the hell not. And if you’re feeling like you need a bit of a break from the boxed wine, there will be $15 Tooheys jugs or tap water for free.

“I really love the floral notes on the Stanley 4 litre Fruity Lexia, the citrus on the front palate really works – great with seafood, or indeed cubed cheese and cabanossi. For the more serious wine enthusiasts we’ll also be showcasing the berry Lambrusco served with ice (no extra charge) for that real backyard Rosé experience,” Gladtsone head honcho Patrick Coughlan tells us in an exclusive interview.

It’s only a matter of time before Boxfest becomes a national holiday. Details:
