In celebration of the release of their highly anticipated fourth album How Many Dreams? (out today), we’ve made DMA’s our official Artist Of The Week…

We’ve been covering DMA’s for a while now. Right back to 2014 when they were nominated for Breakthrough Independent Artist Of The Year at The Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards, through to sold-out live shows, ARIA nominations, Splendour In The Grass sets, even catching up with them for a chat about the release of their second album, For Now in 2018.

Fast forward to 2023 and the band are releasing their fourth album How Many Dreams? off the back of a stunning 2022, with main stage sets at the UK’s Reading and Leeds Festival, tour dates with English rock royalty Kasabian and a string of huge, sold-out hometown shows. Now they’re getting ready for another massive UK tour in April and their biggest-ever Australian tour in September/October of this year.

In celebration of the release of their highly anticipated fourth album, How Many Dreams?, out today, we’ve made them our official Artist Of The Week.

The 12-track release is DMA’s at their best: anthemic yet vulnerable, hopeful yet sentimental. A collection of songs that gazes both back into the past and forward to the future, as they take stock of where they’ve landed in the present, eleven years into their widely successful career that’s solidified them as one of Australia’s most-loved bands.

“How many dreams to find out what you have lost? How many years to find out what you must love?” Tommy O’Dell sings on the album opener, proof that even after so many years and so many songs, there are still plenty of questions to be answered.

From the electronic dance sensibility of ‘How Many Dreams?’ to the quintessential wall of guitars in ‘Fading Like A Picture,’ the album explores sonic territories both new and old, moored by the DMA’s distinctive sound, which is as strong as ever – evidence the band won’t be disappearing from our radars anytime soon.

With their last album, The Glow, coming in at #2 on the Australian ARIA charts, #4 on the UK Official Albums Chart and #1 in Scotland, we can only imagine what’s in store for How Many Dreams?, and we are well and truly here for it.
