While Flying Lotus has earned himself a reputation for creating adventurous and eclectic soundscapes, Kendrick Lamar has been at the forefront of West Coast hip-hop with his emphasis on narrative and vivid storytelling.
Perhaps that’s why this latest collaboration between the two is so promising: they both represent the most exciting aspects of their respective arenas. Taken from Flying Lotus’ upcoming ‘You’re Dead!’ album to be released in October, the track eases you in with a smooth piano lead, before Lamar’s rapid spitting and a whirlwind of percussion turn this into a real dreamy rollercoaster. Apparently, Kendrick wanted to steal this for his next album, as explained by FlyLo:
“The funny part is, though, that he wanted to keep that shit for his album. When I first sent him the track, he was trying to convince me to give it to him. Like, ‘Nah, man, I need that.'”
