Anyone else getting real i’Robot vibes from this?

In the latest instalment of his plan to become an evil genius, eccentric billionaire and cowboy hat enthusiast Elon Musk has let slip the expected production date of his infamous Tesla Bot.

Speaking at the opening of Tesla’s new factory this week, Musk didn’t mince words, explaining, “We have a shot of being in production for version one of Optimus hopefully next year.”

Announced in late 2021 at Tesla AI Day, the humanoid AI, nicknamed “Optimus Sub-Prime”, measures up at 5’8 and weighs about 56 kg. As for its overall purpose, it was created to “eliminate dangerous, repetitive, and boring tasks” and basically make our lives a whole lot more easier (no pressure Optimus).

Musk has been quick to dispel fears of the Tesla Bot going rogue however, stating, “As you see Optimus develop, everyone’s going to make sure it’s safe. No Terminator stuff or that kind of thing. The Tesla bot was purposely designed to be slower, with a top speed of 5mph, and weaker than a human so that it would not be able to overpower its mortal counterparts.”

Whether or not the 2023 production date will come to pass remains to be seen, especially as Musk has regularly fallen short of these deadlines in recent years. It seems like he’s particularly invested in this project however, stating, “It’s really going to transform the world I think to a degree even greater than the cars.”

Only time will tell whether Optimus will in fact be what Musk claims it to be, or spell our eventual doom. Check out his announcement of the 2023 production date above, along with some eerie tweets from the Tesla Bot below.
