The “next chapter in the Batman saga” is imminent…

Max (formerly HBO Max) has just dropped a bone-chilling teaser trailer for The Penguin, the upcoming Batman spinoff series, starring Colin Farrell (Banshees of Inisherin, The Batman) as the infamous villain.

The Irish actor is reprising his role as the “new kingpin of Gotham” from Matt Reeves’ 2022 blockbuster film The Batman. The series will run for eight episodes and take viewers on another wild ride through the dark world of Gotham City.

Currently in production, The Penguin will once again be directed by Reeves who will also be executive producing alongside Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc and Craig Zobel, with Bill Carraro also involved in the production.

The teaser trailer showcases a once again completely transformed Farrell as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot aka The Penguin, almost unrecognisable with his gritty look from Reeves’ Batman film. Other cast members include Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell, with Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen also reprising their roles.

According to James Gunn, The Penguin series is part of the else-verse and will not be part of the Gods and Monsters DC universe. Meanwhile, Reeves will also be directing Batman II, which is slated for release on October 3, 2025.

The Penguin is set to join the HBO Max lineup in 2024, although no official release date has been announced yet. More details about the series are expected to be revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in July.
