Reckon you’d be feeling the pressure being Australia’s only female skater headed to the 2021 Olympic Games?

You bet you would. Transitioning to Olympic athlete has been no easy task for park annihilator Poppy Olsen Starr, not that you’d think she had any problems with competition skating by looking at her accolades. From becoming Australia’s number one female bowl skater at 14, to taking out X Games bronze 17, the Vans team rider has already reached legendary status in the sport in Australia at 21 years old.

With the Poppy set to take on the park on August 3rd on behalf of her country, a doco following her story, Tall Poppy: A Skater’s Story, couldn’t be more timely. Shot over twelve years, it showcases her transition from a girl who just wanted to skate to Olympic athlete and all the hurdles that she and her manager-mum have faced in the male-dominated sport. The film, which was directed by Justin Moyle is hitting over 30 cinemas in Australia from June 27th, and comes with a special ‘In Conversations With Poppy Starr Olsen’ event that is happening at 3pm July 3rd AEST wherein Poppy will be further offering an inside look at her career live from Tokyo. If you’ve ever wanted to pick the brains of a (future) Olympic champ, this is your chance! Head here for tickets/deets:
