50 shades of green.

It’s no secret that the world’s resources are finite. Largely our governments are allowing big businesses to walk all over them and willfully destroy the planet for the sake of profit – yep it’s pretty damn grim. Which makes it pretty damn cool that industry leaders like Vans are stepping up and showing initiative where our leaders are letting us down.

Today they’ve shared the news that by 2030 they will be partnering with environmental organisations PUR Project and Terra Genesis to rethink the ways their products are made. That means that by 2030 100% of top materials will be regenerative, responsibly sourced, renewable or recycled, including rubber, cotton, leather, and polyester. Additionally, the company will commit to a 43% carbon reduction by:

– Reducing the average impact of top materials by 35% by 2025
– Utilizing 50% recycled polyester by 2025
– Sourcing 100% sustainably grown cotton by 2025

They’re also eliminating single-use plastics and committing to running all of their owned and operated factories on 100% renewable energy by 2025. It’s the kind of move we can 100% get behind.

“Enabling creative expression is central to Vans. As a purpose-driven company that is ingrained in youth culture, we are leveraging our commitment to creativity to seek new solutions that reimagine the lifecycle of our products and protect the environment for future generations,” Kim Matsoukas, senior manager of Sustainability at Vans says.
