Scary…

No doubt we all have our phobias. Whether it be spiders, snakes, heights, you name it. But one predator that doesn’t get nearly enough fear directed toward it are crocs, and a young fisher learned quick that one encounter with a croc could spell doom.

NT police said a 23-year-old the man was waist deep fishing in Arnhem Land when he was grabbed by a croc at around 5pm. Luckily, he managed to climb onto local vegetation, holding on for dear life until the croc released him.

“He was grabbed from behind by a 1.8 metre [crocodile] and the man held onto some mangroves and the crocodile for some reason released him and swam away,” NT Police Watch Commander Siiri Tennosaar said.

“So other than suffering some pretty deep lacerations to his upper thigh, he managed to get away with no life-threatening injuries.”

He was treated at by local healthcare authorities before being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.
