So rough…

With numerous states around the country easing lockdown measures and return to a semi-normal version of life, it appears Victoria is going in the opposite direction, with fears of a second COVID-19 wave in full force. Across four days alone 77 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Victoria, with Victoria Health Minister Jenny Mikakos calling it “still a very serious situation”.

The reinstated lockdown measures will see out-of-home gatherings restricted to groups of 10, with Victorians only allowed to invite up to five people to their homes at any one time. The restrictions regarding home gatherings seem to be a particular area of concern for Minister Mikakos, stating “We have had particularly some concerns around family gatherings, extended family members across many households, visiting each other even when they have been exhibiting mild symptoms”.

Easing of measures in certain areas of everyday life have been put on hold as well, with the move to increase the capacity of pubs, cafes and restaurants being put on hold. Gyms, cinemas, indoor sports centres and concert venues are still opening today, but with a limit of 20 people.

Pretty rough news, check out Victorian MP Dan Andrews’ statement regarding the reinforced measures below.
