In news that’ll make Elon Musk a very happy man, Tesla is now the most valuable car company in the world. The news comes after Tesla’s stock surged by a staggering 17% this week alone, closing above $1000 USD ($1,445 AUD) on Monday for the first time ever. Wednesday also saw them reach a new record high of $1,135 USD per share ($1,640 AUD).
With this latest news, Tesla has overtaken many of its competitors, now valued at $208 billion USD ($300 billion AUD). Until now Toyota has been leading the charge, valued at roughly $203 billion USD ($293 billion AUD).
The milestone just goes to show how much people love Tesla and the message behind it, with the company’s shares more than doubling in 2020, surging by over 150% amid continued interest from retail and investors. Fingers crossed more car companies follow their lead and take moves to ensure environmental sustainability, as consumers & investors seem to be loving Tesla for it.
