Move over Elon Musk…

Changing with the times and putting sustainability first, Hyundai is launching its own dedicated electric car brand called ‘Ioniq’, the move being the first part of the brand’s plan to deliver three new all-electric cars by 2025. Now, you might be thinking “Doesn’t Hyundai already sell a hybrid car called the ‘Ioniq’?” Well, yes. The current Ioniq is a plug-hybrid and electric car, but it won’t be part of the new all-electric line.

The first car to be launched under the new name will be the Ioniq 5 SUV early next year, which will feature an underfloor battery pack along with a flat-floored cabin (based on the EV 45 concept). The next car will be the Ioniq 6 sedan in 2022 (based on the Prophecy concept), and the last release will be the Ioniq 7 large SUV, slated to arrive in 2024. All three cars will be built on a modular platform which will be designed to maximise interior space, along with super fast charging capabilities and a long range.

It’s all part of Hyundais goal to sell a million batter-powered cars by 2025, aiming to be the third-largest maker of eco-friendly vehicles by the same year (it’s gonna take a hell of a lot to kick Elon Musk of the top). Check out some images of the new line below.
