If you’ve been staying up to date on NASA’s latest exploits, you’ll definitely have today penciled into your calendar as a very important day. No, it’s not the day we find out about aliens, or discover some super advanced way of intergalactic travel, but rather, the day that NASA’s Perseverance rover lands on Mars.
The rover launched back in July and is only now completing its huge trek across our solar system, and is about to touch down inside the Jezero crater, where it’s set to hunt for signs of past life on the red rock. However, it’s got some passengers of its own well, 11 million to be exact, flying the names of 11 million people from around the globe who signed up for NASA’s “Send Your Name To Mars” program (kind’ve self explanatory what the program entails).
But, 11 million passengers have got another sweet plus along with having their names on another planet, being eligible for one free Mars Doughnut all today (on Earth). The doughnuts are extremely limited-edition and are filled with chocolate creme and dipped in caramel icing. In a stroke of genius, the icing has been dyed red as well, all to make it look like Mars itself. All they have to do is bring in their boarding pass to a Krispy Kreme store, and their set (luckily the doughnuts are still available to those whose names won’t be on Mars though).
Pretty kick ass. No doubt if the rover pulls this landing off, it’ll be absolutely huge. Check out the logistics of the whole touchdown below.
