Ensuring that the legacy of Jean-Michel Basquiat lives on, the folks at DC Shoes have announced a new collection derived from the street artist’s most prolific work. An ode to Basquiat’s early ‘80s artistry, the recent drop spans from footwear to apparel, honouring Basquiat’s signature street style with colourful graffito print and paint-dripped insignias.

On top of a t-shirt line complete with Basquiat’s famed skull imagery and brick wall sketchings, the new collection also makes a masterpiece out of DC’s staple footwear. Classic kicks like the Lynx Zero have been restored with a pop-art, paint-splattered twist, but the shoemakers have upped the craftsmanship even further with two stand out silhouettes.
The Manual Hi is a walking Basquiat gallery, boasting a 21-panel collage of the artist’s most transformative pieces, and better yet, DC’s pièce de résistance comes in the form of the Basquiat Hybrid. The as-yet unreleased mash-up which pays homage to its namesake inspiration by being equally one-of-a-kind.
Add in a range of kid-friendly slip ons and you’ve got a collection fit for everyday connoisseurs. Peep the full collection here, and keep an eye out for the Basquiat Hybrid drop on August 14.
