Coachella music festival has dove into the cryptocurrency space by announcing plans to auction off ten lifetime passes as NFTs. Titled the ‘Coachella Keys Collection,’ the new collectables will grant festival-goers unlimited access to the Californian event, including front row spots at Coachella’s main stage as well as other on-site and virtual experiences in the future.
The lifetime Coachella passes are set to be auctioned off on February 4, and will kickstart the launch of the festival’s official NFT marketplace. The Coachella Collectibles series, which includes the Keys Collection, marks the first time a large-scale event has used NFTs as passes for real life experiences, with the festival expected to continue its crypto ventures for multiple years.

The Coachella NFTs will be minted on Solana, a public blockchain platform which both parties chose for its lower transaction fees. Further diving into the virtual world, Coachella Innovation Lead Sam Schoonover said the festival is also considering the Metaverse to “create more opportunities for fans to interact with each other and their favourite artists both online and offline.”
Coachella’s latest crypto venture comes ahead of the festival’s official start date in April, and will see headliners Kanye West, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles take the stage across two weekends. If you fancy a trip across the pond (and have the virtual funds to do so), Coachella’s lifetime pass NFTs will be auctioned this Friday on nft.coachella.com and ftx.us/nfts.
