The building is set to be completed by 2030…

In what’s surely set to be the biggest instance of overcompensating in modern history, Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for their new record-breaking skyscraper. Titled ‘The Mukaab Building’, the upcoming landmark is slated to measure 400 meters by 400 metres and will reportedly be big enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings upon its completion in 2030.

You might be thinking that this sounds a bit excessive, but it turns out the building will serve several uses. Mainly, its interior is set to utilise holographic technology to create other planets and “Magical worlds”, while added residential, retail, entertainment and hospitality sections will position it as the crown jewel of the city’s new downtown space in Riyadh.

The teaser for the new project is impressive, to say the least, with 3D renderings of the building helping to make it look like something out of a sci-fi movie. It also features a shot of the skyscraper submerged underwater in what’s a total reference to the mythical city of Atlantis. However, considering this is quite literally impossible, we’re guessing old mate making the trailer was having a little too much on with the CGI front. Nonetheless, check out the plans for the dazzling new building below.
