According to Pedestrian.TV, URBNSURF have purchased a $25.5 million site at Sydney Olympic Park for the wave pool, which sits a tad above the $18.5 million that the company forked out for the Tullamarine location in Melbourne. The location will provide waves of all shapes and sizes powered by Wavegarden technology, as well as LED lighting to allow use at nighttime. As stated by URBNSURF:
“With a north-south lagoon orientation, URBNSURF Sydney has been designed to suit prevailing wind conditions and LED lagoon lighting means there will be surfing night and day,” said Wavegarden in a press release. “The facility will also feature sustainable design, renewable energy and water saving systems, in keeping with Sydney Olympic Park’s strong environmental sustainability ethos.”
There’s no word on when the Wavegarden will be ready, but reports state that it could come in handy for athletes preparing for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Watch this trailer below and prepare for Wavegarden madness in the semi-near future:
