Titled “Punk It!”, the auction will feature a single-lot sale of 104 CryptoPunks on February 23rd, and is expected to amass around $20 – $30 million USD. The collection is the largest group of CryptoPunks to ever come to auction, with the second being Christie’s sale of nine CryptoPunks for just under $17 million in May last year. All of the CryptoPunks in the auction were acquired in a single purchase as well, further distinguishing it from fellow NFT auctions in that each NFT in the collection has the exact same provenance.

The NFT is one of six artworks from John Lennon’s son Julian’s personal collection that also featured NFTs of Lennon’s Help! cape, the Afghan coat Lennon he wore in the Magical Mystery Tour film and the 1959 Gibson guitar that Lennon gave to his son as a gift. The sale took place via an online auction and each NFT was accompanied by a narration from Lennon’s son Julian explaining the story behind it.

The collection of 1,011 NFTs was announced in January by Picasso’s great-grandson Florian, but he’s copped some heat due to his using the name of the arthouse legend, despite the collection not actually containing any Pablo Picasso works. So far, a single-edition piece sold for $41,500 USD via Nifty Gateway last week and came with an original piece of Pablo Picasso pottery, while an additional 10 NFTs sold for around $4,000 to $5,655 USD each – minus the pottery.
