Despite being one of the highest paid DJs in the world, the NFT space is where DJ Steve Aoki has been making his real income as of late…

The ‘Just Hold On’ producer opened up on his NFT earnings at an exclusive gala event in California last week, which, according to videos shared from the night, appeared to be a full deep-dive into the future of music and NFTs. Speaking to attendees, Aoki admitted, “If I was to really break down, OK in the 10 years I’ve been making music, six albums, and you culminate all those advances, what I did in one drop last year in NFTs I made more money.”

It makes sense, especially since the DJ’s “hairy” NFT raked in a solid $888,888.88 on Nifty Gateway last year. But it seems Aoki is keen on being more than just an NFT owner, the DJ already hard at work creating the Aokiverse.

For the cost of 0.25 ETH, citizens of Aoki’s digital world will have access to exclusive digital collectibles and virtual performances from the DJ, along with plenty of other perks. As for Aoki’s own predictions for the future of music and NFTs, the star is clearly keen to see them continue to grow, adding, “As music NFTs become more of a part of how we integrate and support artists, the labels will have to do more than just add the song on a playlist.”
