Originally hailing from Marseille in France, Amath learned his pivotal camera skills from his old man, including analogue photography and how to shoot confidently in black and white. While photography grew organically to become his prioritised passion, he still swayed from that path in order to find a financially stable job – but soon found himself feeling unfulfilled. He returned to photography and relocated to the artistic hub of Paris, but the constant rain dampened his mood and he looked abroad for a new home.
So where do you go if you’re sick of the shitty weather? Australia, of course! It was four years ago that Amath left everything he knew and relocated to Sydney, finding his first job immediately after landing on the iconic sands of Bondi Beach. Sounds like a fairytale, doesn’t it?
“It wasn’t easy at first with the language barrier, gaining new contacts and establishing myself as a photographer. However, I was lucky enough to find my first photography gig four hours after I arrived in Sydney, while sitting on Bondi Beach. From there things just started to organically form from the help of people, hard work and especially discipline and persistence. I love what I do and I think this is just the beginning,” he says.
We admire Amath for his adventurous spirit and willingness to put everything on the line for photography – and it seems to be working out well for him. His edition of Frames below features some old Life Without Andy favourites while he’s also captured some fresh faces here and abroad. Get involved below and find Amath on Instagram right here:
