What is H.IS.W?
Glad you asked. H.IS.W (which stands for Happiness Is Wealth) is a collective of veteran Sydney house/disco producers who have joined forces to deliver intoxicating EDM directly into the earholes of the local club scene and beyond. Their debut track ‘Pleasure Is The Law’ sounds a little like if the Tom Tom Club and Gang Of Four had a baby that was raised in the strip clubs of Kings Cross, with Hamilton’s noir-flavoured vocals booming over a colourful and complex electro soundscape. Seemingly made for that point of the night when the dancefloor is hot and heavy but just about to peak and go a little deeper, the track balances darkness and danceability masterfully.
The visuals also tread that line, with Portia Wilde soaking up the screen with a performance that rivals the energy of the track. In a singular scene, the Wilde sings along and dances to the track in a hotel bathroom with a chaotic intensity, encapsulating the gritty power and saucy vibes of the beat succinctly.
H.IS.W have also launched an immersive online magazine that pays homage to the pleasure-based advertising of the 1980’s. It’s further evidence that this group are being lead purely by curiosities and experimentation, and somehow producing shiny, dystopian gold.
