Party & Bullshit

Surf & Sound left its mark on Manly last night.

After a couple of weeks of incredible live music, art, surfing and more than a few late nights, Surf & Sound Festival went out with one hell of a bang last night.

We’ve practically moved into Manly over the past few weeks, catching everyone from Skegss and Babe Rainbow to Kita Alexander, Skunkhour and Yolanda Be Cool, while taking in the Jeremyville Art Trail, DEFENDER Live Art and all the other good stuff happening around the Northern Beaches. But the festival clearly had a few tricks left up its sleeve for the grand finale.

Winston Surfshirt took the whole surf part of Surf & Sound quite literally, performing on a barge floating in the water off Manly Wharf. Celebrating 10 years of “Be About You”, the local legends treated fans to a pretty bloody special homecoming, with their funky grooves drifting across the water. Not exactly your average gig, aye?

Meanwhile, over at Felons Barrel Room, Aussie icons GANGgajang were dishing out the kind of tunes that are practically woven into the fabric of Australian music. A fitting addition to a festival that’s spent the past few weeks celebrating everything that makes this little corner of Sydney so special.

And just like that, it’s all over. Our feet hurt, our camera rolls are overflowing and we’ve developed a fairly unhealthy attachment to Manly Wharf.

What a bloody few weeks. Check out the gallery above!
