Did anyone ask for this?

Following the announcement of Aussie version of The Office just two weeks ago, it seems our sunburnt country is now getting another reboot of a popular TV classic, except, this time it seems totally unnecessary.

Set to be exclusive to Paramount + and Network 10, the show will follow a bunch of U.S. NCIS Agents and Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers who join forces to combat naval crimes in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet (so, it’s basically a live action version of Battleship). It’s a far cry from the OG NCIS series, which followed Agent Gibbs and his team of hilarious but lethal officers as they solved the most interesting and at times highly disturbing crimes around the U.S. capital of Washington, DC.

Along with the plot for the Aussie show, the cast has also been announced, with homegrown actress Olivia Swann (Legends of Tomorrow, The River Wild) leading the charge as NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey. In her stead is Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey, played by Todd Lasance (Without Remorse, Spartacus: War of the Damned), NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, played by Sean Sagar (The Covenant, Mea Culpa) and a bunch more of the nation’s finest acting talents.

It’s no doubt a roster of Aussie actors and will definitely be good for the local entertainment industry, but I can’t help but thinking, why do we keep getting all of these hand me down shows from the UK and US? Obviously NCIS is a huge title and its spinoffs (NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Hawai’ihave done well in the past, but surely we’ve got enough talented writers in this country to come up with original ideas for a cop-themed TV Show?

Still, I’m probably in the minority of people who have an issue with this, and I’m guessing there’ll be Aussie versions of Euphoria, White Lotus and Donald Glober’s Atlanta (okay, maybe not that last one) before weeks end. For now, check out some of the best and funniest moments from the OG NCIS below.
