Cailee Spaeny will play the titular role of Priscilla.

Just when we thought we had all the Elvis biopics we could ever ask for, director and cinema icon Sofia Coppola has announced a new film about the actress and wife of the king of rock ‘n’ roll, Priscilla Presley. Based on Priscilla’s 1985 memoir, Elvis and Me, the film traces the pair’s wild, drug-fuelled relationship and their marriage, which spanned six years from 1967 to 1973.

Priscilla will be released via indie entertainment company A24, which has built a reputation for offbeat, boundary-pushing films since 2012, with the likes of Hereditary, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Ex Machina and Lady Bird. The film will mark Coppola’s third collab with A24, following on from On the Rocks and The Bling Ring

American actress Cailee Spaeny (Vice, On The Basis Of Sex) has nabbed the role of Priscilla, while Euphoria star Jacob Elordi will play the role of Elvis. While a release date is yet to be set, filming is reportedly set to begin this year.

The announcement comes after Austin Butler was widely praised for his portrayal of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic released earlier this year. Reactions to Priscilla have been mixed, with some upset that Butler’s portrayal should be followed up so soon.
