If you’re like us, odds are you’re an absolute fiend for Anthony Mackie in whatever movie he’s in. He’s a man of immeasurable charisma, and he’s an absolute badass in every way possible. Thus, imagine if you gave him some cybernetics and physical enhancements, and essentially made him indestructible. Netflix had the same idea, and the result is their new action movie Outside The Wire, for which they’ve just dropped the new trailer for.
An official synopsis for the film reads ‘Set in the future, Harp (Damson Idris), a drone pilot, is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for Leo (Anthony Mackie), an android officer, tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do. Outside the Wire is directed by Mikael Håfström.’
The trailer is pretty killer, the special effects for Mackie’s cybernetics striking the perfect balance between surrealist and realistic. There’s also plenty of laughs, with Idris and Mackie having mad emotional and comedic chemistry as they take on various enemies, ranging from human to machine. The trailer literally sees the film shift from buddy cop comedy to action blockbuster to spy thriller, and by the end it’s honestly kinda hard to get a read on what genre or theme they’re actually going for (which just makes us more excited and intrigued).
It’ll be sick to see Mackie in another action role, and will no doubt get us ready for his Disney+ series Falcon and The Winter Soldier (whenever that drops).
The film is set to debut on Netflix on January 15. Check out the official trailer below.
