With local fans eagerly awaiting his Australian debut at Laneway 2020, Omar Apollo continues his rise with new visuals for slow burning bop ‘Kickback’.

Sunny, lo-fi and squad heavy, the clip reproduces a similar aesthetic to his last music video for ‘Ashamed’ and offers a further glimpse into the eclectic Mexican-American artist’s fun-focused and laid back persona. The fourth single and one of the standout tracks from his 2019 EP, Friends, ‘Kickback’ is another example of Omar Apollo’s inclination to blur genre boundaries while the accompanying video sees him get in his feelings (in fleeting moments) while captaining a yacht as he and his friends swim, dance and play the day away.

Amidst the exploration of some heavy weekend induced anxiety, he also shouts out his cousin JDog repeatedly in the chorus for some reason. I have no idea who that is but a big part of me hopes it’s the guy running the wifebeater, jeans and slime green/volt socks with sandals combo. Check out all the action in the clip below:
