The greatest example of ingenuity since the invention electricity…

A baseball fan has gone viral after using his hot dog as a straw for his beer, during a recent Yankees-Mets game in New York City. Footage of the invention was posted to New York Nico’s Instagram account yesterday, and shows the unnamed fan poke a lengthwise hole in his frankfurter (hold the laugh track), and then — in what is the greatest example of ingenuity since the invention electricity — proceed to take a swig his beer from the meaty straw.

The clip has quickly been shared across social media, with many users deciphering whether the snack was a foolish incident (common in the US), or a high art stunt à la Banksy.  The hot dog invention comes weeks after a similar baseball game moment, in which an attendee named Kareem Rahma dipped his hot dog (bun and all) into a beer before chowing down the yeasty concoction.

The innovator has been met with equal parts adoration and disgust, with users either calling for his arrest or optioning him for the cover of Time Magazine’s most influential people. In any case, Rahma has defended his particular tastes in an interview with MEL, describing his thought process as “kill[ing] two birds with one stone.”

But glizzy straw apologists should be warned, the most recent user of the invention may not be the first. In what is a true reflection of where society is at, a quick scan of YouTube will find multiple tutorials on how to best construct the straw, with many gastronomists using a drill to hole-out their snacks.

If nothing else, the straw at least passes the environmental test, completely eradicating plastic waste while retaining more structural integrity than a paper straw could dream of. Peep some of the best Twitter reactions below, and in the meantime, happy drink/eating.
