Guessing Chat GPT will be headed for in-flight entertainment next…

It seems Skynet is continuing to take over, with the tech world’s latest digital fad, Chat GPT, now being integrated into cars. Mercedes Benz, the German automobile manufacturer that seems to never have a bad idea, has decided to trial the AI in a batch of Mercs during a three-month beta program in the US, with plans for a broader rollout in the future.

With the new batch, the “Hey Mercedes” assistant is about to get a major upgrade in its conversational skills. Forget about simple commands like adjusting the temperature or checking the weather. Now, you can engage in full-blown conversations with your car’s AI, complete with follow-up questions and witty banter (Just don’t roast me on my parallel parking and we’ll be fine).

To top things off, Mercedes is even considering ChatGPT plugins that could turn your car into a personal assistant. From booking restaurant reservations to copping movie tickets and everything in between, it basically is aiming to take all the legwork out of everyday life, which my lazy self is not at all mad at (Despite the fact that I’ll probably never own a Mercedes Benz). It’s a bit on the scary side, however, as conversations will be “stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, where it is anonymized and analyzed” according to Mercedes collaborator Azure, which means that AI will truly be listening at all times.

Of course, crashes and road incidents come to mind whenever any smart gadget like ChatGPT is mentioned in the same sentence as cars. So, the ChatGPT function in Mercedes vehicles will be voice-only to minimize distractions. So, you best buckle up, because its looking like the AI that started off as the butt of a joke is now expanding at a rate faster than any of us could’ve predicted.
