The multi-ARIA award-winning Ghanaian-Australian artist has announced his second record, STRUGGLER, due for release in August, and shared his latest single, ‘Leaving The Light’, along with a mind-bending video that unfolds against an apocalyptic landscape.
To celebrate the album’s release, Owusu has also announced a run of shows for the end of this year in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide (for tickets, head here).

Hot off the back of the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album, Smiling with No Teeth, in 2021 and a massive 2022, which saw multiple ARIA wins and a massive Tame Impala tour support, it seems Owusu is not planning on slowing down anytime soon.
A statement about the upcoming album revealed it draws inspiration from “a close friend hitting the brink and coming through the other side, in conjunction with prompted questions of life and beauty that Owusu found himself contemplating during readings of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis.”

“Where Smiling with No Teeth uncovered the battle against depression and racism, STRUGGLER is about how to get through its struggle.”
Recorded between Australia and the US, STRUGGLER brings together an incredible lineup of producers, including Jason Evigan (RUFUS DU SOL, SZA), Mikey Freedom Hart (Jon Batiste’s 2021 GRAMMY of the Year Album, We Are), Sol Was (Beyoncé’s Renaissance), and original producers Andrew Klippel and Dave Hammer.
Owusu has also collaborated with world-renowned Aotearoa visual artist, Lisa Reihana, on the album’s visual identity, whose work spans a range of mediums from film and video installation to costume and body adornment.
STRUGGLER is due out on August 18. Check out the tour dates below.
