Look anything over ‘WAP’ please…

If you voted in the Hottest 100 this year, odds are you put real blood, sweat and tears into your top ten songs of the year. It’s a task that looks simple on paper, but in reality is fucking horrendous to do. As always, there are numerous predictions for the countdown, websites generating lists of the songs most likely to crack the 100, and of course, those lists are swirling around again, but this time with a song I don’t think any of us were expecting.

It’s a song that was born in hardship, cultivated during one of the darkest periods of lockdown last year. Of course, you know what I’m talking about, that iconic ‘Get On The Beers’ Remix that reverberated around the nation and helped Melbourne celebrate the end of lockdown.

According to Hot 100 prediction website 100 Warm Tunas, the remix of 2020 is set to come in at number 16 in this year’s countdown. The website bases its rankings off people’s screenshots of their votes, so for ‘Get On The Beers’ to chart it must be getting an absolute fucktonne of votes.

If you somehow missed out on one of the few good moments of 2020, the ‘Get On The Beers’ remix by Mashd N Kutcher features a mashup of a COVID press conference held by Victorian Premier Dan Andrews, with his initial speech being cut and rearranged, to indeed encourage listeners to ‘get on the beers.’ It was so popular it even went off at Wine Machine in Perth last year, with crowds being seen going absolutely wild to the tune.

“That’s what’s most important – the beers,” Andrews says over the dance track.

“As best we can tell, the dinner party started with one case of beers…as far as we can tell, everyone at the dinner party had a case of the beers. Get on the beers… that’s your civic duty… that’s what’s most important and that’s what must be done.”

The track then builds to a gorgeous drop, with that beautiful, one word triggering an onslaught of ridiculousness. Of course, the word is “Beers,” and that’s what we’ll all be getting on this Saturday. Refresh your memory with one of the best tracks of 2020 below.
