So far Australia has done a pretty top job of easing restrictions and slowly getting life back to normal, all the while ensuring that rates of COVID-19 remain low and that we don’t fall back into lockdown. We’re doing pretty well, and it seems that if we keep this progress up, we can see the government’s three stage lifting of restrictions be significantly brought forward.
PM Scott Morrison’s current three-stage plan to reboot the economy is aiming to have the economy up and going and most restrictions lifted on business, gatherings and travel by the end of July.
But the easing of national restrictions could be significantly fast-tracked, if the number of new national daily cases are consistently below ten. The nation would have to keep this up for 14 days for the plan to even considered. State and Commonwealth leaders will be meeting at a National Cabinet meeting within two weeks to discuss the matter, according to The Australian.
However, at the end of the day it’ll still be up to individual states to agree to the recommendation, with states such as Queensland and Western Australia so far being cautious as to lifting restrictions and opening their borders.
It’s definitely good news, and with the way we’re going it’s definitely achievable. Fingers crossed we manage to keep up the good work for the next little while…
