Big step forward…

Finally catching up to its competitors and getting with the times, McDonald’s has announced its own place-basted meat line, smartly dubbed the “McPlant,” which is set to debut in 2021. Beyond Meat, which is a notable plant-based meat manufacturer, has stated that it helped co-create the all new range, so no doubt it’s gonna be the real deal.

Speaking on the new line, a Beyond Meat spokesperson said “Beyond Meat and McDonald’s co-created the plant-based patty which will be available as part of their McPlant platform.”

It seems that Maccas understand that times are changing, and that meat alternatives are on the rise, with Chief Executive Officer Chris Kempczinski stating “Plant-based products are an ongoing consumer trend. It’s not a matter of if McDonald’s will get into plant-based, it’s a matter of when.”

As a part of the new line, Maccas has stated it could offer products including chicken substitutes, breakfast sandwiches and burgers. If all goes according to plan, we could be very well be getting a taste of these beauties within 2021.

But in some rough news for Beyond Meat, shares for the plant-based giant fell by a whopping 8 percent shortly after Maccas’ announcement. It seems that even though Beyond Meat helped to make the new range, Maccas isn’t super set on working with Beyond Meat on the manufacturing side, and thus is now one of their biggest competitors. Regardless, its cool to see plant-based alternatives make their way into the mainstream, and no doubt the new “McPlant” range will be tasty AF. Get keen.
