Tech Crunch revealed on Monday that there are non-activated lines of code in the android version of Instagram for a “Music Search” function within the location and stickers tabs.
Along with emojis, timestamps, gifs, and all that good stuff, users could potentially add music by either uploading their own or selecting from a library of songs.
Instagram was bought by Facebook back in 2012. Since then, 6 years has passed and the popular photo sharing app has undergone several substantial changes, including design overhauls and changes to the timeline algorithm.
Recently Facebook has signed deals with several major record labels, stoking the possible inclusion of music in all of Facebook owned companies including WhatsApp, Masquerade, and Facebook Messenger.
It has not been 100% detailed how music will exactly work with Instagram. There has been a strong desire for the addition of music in Instagram for a long time now. Currently, if a user adds music to a video, it can be taken down easily due to copyright issues.
So sometime soon you maybe be able to add your favourite trap banger to your instagram stories. Imagine ASAP Ferg’s Plain Jane snapping over your storied Sunday brunch or late afternoon sunset, the possibilities are truly endless.
