While there’s certainly instances on the road that deservedly inspire anger (like when someone doesn’t thank you for letting them in), this newly-released dashcam footage takes road rage to its extremity, documenting the moment a Byron Bay driver wielded an axe on the Ewingsdale freeway in Northern NSW.
The video, which was published to Dash Cam Owners Australia’s Youtube channel yesterday, shows the driver of a silver car as he chaotically overtakes a Mercedes, before channelling big Jack Nicholson energy and brandishing a sizeable weapon outside the window, in direct view of oncoming traffic.

In an apparent attempt to dodge the madman, the Mercedes driver then makes a quick U-turn, only to be followed in the other direction in a high-speed chase along the motorway. The rear view vision then documents the man’s successful attempts at ramming the Mercedes’ bumper, before the driver veers onto a grassy median strip.
Originally occurring last year, the case has since appeared before the courts, where the man plead guilty to predatory driving and intent to commit an indictable offence, for which he was sentenced to two years in prison. On an unrelated note, does flipping someone off after they didn’t thank you count as ‘predatory driving’?
