Popular morning show the Today Show has dropped the leader of the One Nation party Pauline Hanson after she described Melbourne public housing residents locked down due to COVID-19 as “drug addicts” who “cannot speak English”. Channel Nine was quick to distance themselves from the remarks, quickly releasing a statement that described the comments as “Ill-informed and divine”, while promising that “she will no longer be appearing on our program as a regular contributor”.
However, that didn’t stop them from tweeting out a video of Hanson’s appearance twice, with a caption summarising her comments. They’ve since deleted the tweets after facing major backlash.
This isn’t the first time she’s drawn criticism on a morning show, with Sunrise host David Koch criticising her heavily on air for her comments on the Christchurch massacre last year, forcing her to ditch her Sunrise slot in favour of the Today Show.
It’s unclear whether she’ll return to Channel Nine in an irregular capacity or not, but Channel Seven has made it clear she’s still welcome at Sunrise. Check out the tweets criticising Channel Nine’s posting the segment below.
The Today Show was so disturbed by Pauline Hanson's racism they posted her comments TWICE.
Any doubt that the @TheTodayShow is using racism as a ratings booster?
and @AllisonLangdon is sooooo shocked Pauline Hanson would punch down against migrants & the vulnerable.#Auspol pic.twitter.com/ZtywDeYmNS
