Aussie tradies are in high demand…

The last couples of weeks have been super up and down in terms of Aussie weather, going from sweltering hot to blisteringly cold as the weather struggles to make up its mind. That makes work 1000 times harder for the tradies working outside, having to battle the elements while engaging in heavy manual labour and long AF hours. If you’re one of those tradies however, the Australian Antarctic Program may just have a solution for you, as they’re hiring a fuck-tonne of tradies to work in Antarctica, and the pay is pretty decent.

Speaking on the job, Human resources manager, Maree Riley said “It’s an amazing opportunity and such a unique experience to live and work on an Antarctic station, somewhere few people have the opportunity to even visit.

“Our expeditioners are essential to support the vital science work of the AAP and maintain Australia’s research stations.”

The expedition is also totally committed to gender equality and diversity for their workers as well, adding “The Australian Antarctic Division is fully committed to its pursuit of gender equality and diversity across all aspects of the AAP. In particular, we have a strong focus on increasing women in the AAP especially across STEM and the broader range of trade roles that we offer.”

“We want people who can live and work together harmoniously in often harsh and inhospitable conditions.”

The deets sound pretty sweet, with the Advocate reporting that “All rent and board is free at the four bases where chefs feed you and expeditioners get a special yearly allowance while living and working in Antarctica of $60,974 per annum on top of the job’s base wage,” which salaries ranging from $60,000 to $199,000.

The news will definitely be a welcome update to tradies sick of unpredictable weather and being on the edge with the ever-present threat of COVID-19. Even though the weather will be cold AF, at least tradies will know what they’re in for.

The recruitment process will be running from 9 December 2020 to 21 January 2021. If you’re keen, be sure to apply here.
