Pour one out for the Queen…

A Bristol nightclub is copping heat for its decision to throw an all-night rave that finishes on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Set to take place on Monday September 19th, the newly-announced public holiday is set to see a swarm of institutions and workplaces close across the UK as the nation farewells its longest serving monarch. Except, however, Motion nightclub.

The rave (which is totally free, in case you’re in the area), starts at 8pm on Sunday and finishes at 5am the following morning, which leaves a total of six hours to recover before the Queen’s funeral. It’s likely going to be quite the night as well, with Motion being previously named as the fourteenth best club in the world by DJ Mag and having hosted the likes of DJ Seinfeld, Ben Rau and Chris Stussy in the past. Still, the Queen’s presence will still be felt, with a minute’s silence scheduled to take place before the event begins.

However, it seems Brits aren’t taking too kindly to the club’s decision, with Motion forced to issue a statement in response, explaining, “We were due to host the after parties for the Tokyo World Festival this week, however, due to the perfect storm of Brexit and Covid-19, First Bus has cancelled the planned transport from Eastville Park to the venue in BS2. In light of these being cancelled, and with wages, increasing power costs plus multiple other factors of life in 2022, we felt we were not in the position to keep the venue shut.

“As with everyone else we were truly saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 8 and wish the new King all the best in his new role”, they added. “God Save The King.”

Looks like not even the Queen can get in the way of a good time. Check out the full lineup above, and if you happen to be in Bristol this weekend, consider paying Motion a cheeky visit.
