In a bit of lunchtime madness, an elderly man has been caught on video reversing his SUV an Eastwood restaurant, and then being lurched forward into a taxi. The driver in question is in his 80s, and was attempting to park his car when the accident occurred.
“He was having a bit of trouble so his wife got out and he’s reversed the car and – whether he’s confused the accelerator from the brake – he’s ended up mounting the kerb,” he Fire & Rescue NSW Acting Superintendent Rob Jansen said. The driver in question was checked over by paramedics to make sure he was okay, and tested negative to a roadside breath test.
The shop involved in the crash, the Eastwood Peking Seafood Restaurant, got off very lucky, as no patrons or workers were hurt in the ordeal. According to restaurant owner Tommy Chan, the diners were “very lucky”, as they had been sitting at the back of the restaurant away from the breach.
Adding even more luck to the situation, two firefighters were on the scene getting lunch when the crash occurred, and immediately sprang to action. The pair cleared numerous individuals from the scene and secured the safety of onlookers, before directing witnesses to “call the police”.
It’s definitely a confronting watch, check the full footage below.
