Hold onto your seats and prepare to be transported into twenty different worlds simultaneously, as Sia has released a new song ‘Hey Boy’ featuring Burna Boy, along with a super trippy video that’s just properly mind-boggling.
Directed by Rafatoon, the video sees Sia and Burna Boy transformed into cartoon characters in the same style of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, while also taking inspiration from anime and psychedelia such as the Yellow Submarine short film. The video starts with Sia’s character singing in a dark club, before flying and venturing through numerous dream sequences. It gets even more trippy however, as Burna Boy is transformed into an anthropomorphic cat, which he remains as for the duration of the vid.
The song itself is pretty sick too, taking influence from pop, soul, afro-house, and numerous more genres and cultures. Of course, Sia’s vocals are completely otherworldly, reaching heights that we didn’t think were possible. Burna Boy’s verse totally kills it as well, dropping soulful bars juxtaposed with gorgeous harmonies that for some reason remind me of Fetty Wap’s ‘Trap Queen.’
It’s all got us pretty pumped for Sia’s directorial debut Music, which stars Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., and Maddie Ziegler. The film follows Hudson and Ziegler’s characters are who estranged sisters, but are helped to reconcile by Odom Jr.’s neighbor character. Described as a musical drama, it seems we’re gonna get a gorgeous dose of new Sia tunes for it, and if they’re anything like ‘Hey Boy,’ then we’re properly sold.
The film is set to be released on February 12, 2021. Watch the full visual below.
