Been a heavy week…

After a week of deliberating and consulting, NBA players have reportedly agreed to resume the 2020 playoffs, with the league planning to resume games this weekend. The move comes after the Milwaukee Bucks staged a walk-out ahead of Game 5 against the Orlando Magic following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, along with various other teams including the LA Lakers deciding not to play.

Speaking on the team’s decision, the Bucks owners said “We fully support our players and the decision they made. Although we did not know beforehand, we would have wholeheartedly agreed with them. The only way to bring about change is to shine a light on the racial injustices that are happening in front of us. Our players have done that and we will continue to stand alongside them and demand accountability and change.”

As a result, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James convened a video call with various teams and team owners in the NBA bubble to deliberate on how to proceed next, realising that it was in their best interests to finish the season instead of cutting it short.

“Significant source of frustration in meeting last night stemmed from players not being on the same page and emotions got the best of some. The hope from the collective was after a good night’s sleep, they could reconvene and get it to this point. Playoffs are back,” Yahoo Sports’ Hayes tweeted.

Shortly after the announcement of the resumption of the playoffs, Lebron tweeted “Change doesn’t happen with just talk!! It happens with action and needs to happen NOW! For me @Ipromiseschool kids, kids and communities across the country, it’s on US to make a difference. TOGETHER. That’s why your vote is @morethanavote”.

Pretty intense stuff, here’s hoping everyone involved can come to a compromise they’re all happy with soon.
