One of the latest areas NFTs (non-fungible tokens) have gotten their hands on is the entertainment sphere, with ViacomCBS partnering with Recur to create and sell a range of the new-age art pieces based on its countless films and TV shows.
Naturally, these types of collabs don’t happen overnight, and so the two companies will be launching a platform early next year where users can buy, collect and trade NFTs revolving around characters ranging from SpongeBob SquarePants and Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt. Basically, if a character appears on any networks such as CBS, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, Showtime and BET, odds are they’ll eventually be getting the NFT treatment.
In a pretty unexpected twist, the two companies will be eliminating the need for cryptocurrency on the new platform, instead opting to allow users to use credit and debit cards to make transactions.

Interesting times for television and film no doubt. Personally, I’m just keen to see childhood favourites from shows like Spongebob SquarePants on the blockchain. Check out some characters from the Nickelodeon classic in action below for a little trip down memory lane.
