Gavriel Maynard is a man who’s synonymous with Sydney photography – he’s one of the city’s brightest and most outspoken talents, and offers plenty of banter outside of his extensive and eyebrow-raising portfolio.

His video coverage of Fashion Week might be the most #engaging of all time, and he has a cool haircut to boot. That’s why we’ve chosen Gav to be the subject of our latest edition of Frames, where he picks ten of his favourite shots for you all.

There’s no doubt that a lot of aspiring shooters look up to Gav, and he’s passed on some gems of wisdom for those looking to get more involved:

Shoot everything you can… It sucks now that so many kids just pick up a camera with the only idea being “I’m gonna be a fashion photographer”. They don’t want to learn what they are interested in, they don’t want to shoot anything other than girls, and it leaves the work lacking any real soul to it. I think there has to be something outside of fashion you are interested in exploring that you then bring to your fashion work to make it interesting.

This year, Gav is tackling a stack of commercial jobs as well as his own erotica zine, which features “no hair or make up artists, stylists, or clothes – as they aren’t really wearing any.” Until then, look below:
