With the release of his second surprise record this year, we’ve made electronic king (and blatant overachiever) Flume our Artist Of The Week…

It’s been a wild ride for Flume fans this year, with not one but two surprise record releases from the iconic Aussie producer, featuring previously unheard music from his sprawling 10-year career, excavated from those mysterious Flume archives.

Following on from the success of Things Don’t Always Go The Way You Plan earlier this year, Flume has gifted us with a follow-up in the form of Arrived Anxious, Left Bored, a collection of 10 tracks that reflect the eclectic nature of his output over the past decade.

Featuring collabs with the likes of producer Emile Haynie (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, ASAP Rocky) and Jim-E Stack (Bon Iver, HAIM, Sudan Archives), as well as Flume’s first venture into using his own vocals, Arrived Anxious, Left Bored showcases the breadth of the producer’s musical talent.

From underground house to atmospheric ambient tracks, this record takes us on a journey through the various styles and sounds that have defined Flume’s career to date, with album-opener and Sarah Aarons-collab ‘SKY SKY’ a particular stand-out.

But Arrived Anxious, Left Bored is more than just a collection of unreleased tracks. It’s also a cathartic exercise for Flume, a chance to “clean the slate and make way for what’s next” (insert eyes emoji).

All of this comes after a huge 2022 for the producer, which saw him release his third studio album, Palaces (with the MAYA-featuring single ‘Say Nothing’ taking out APRA’s Song Of The Year Award and coming in at #1 on triple j’s annual Hottest 100 countdown) and pick up six ARIA Award nominations and a J Award nomination for Australian Album of the Year. He also managed to squeeze in a main stage slot at Coachella and finish off the year with a huge national tour of Australia.

Off the back of this latest releaseFlume will be delivering an Australian exclusive performance at Splendour In The Grass this July, taking us on a journey through the past 10 years of his career. It’s an opportunity not to be missed, as Flume continues to cement his status as one of the most influential and innovative producers of our time.

So if you’re feeling a little bored with the current state of electronic music, look no further than Flume’s latest offering. Arrived Anxious, Left Bored is the album we didn’t know we needed.
