In celebration of the release of their much-hyped third EP, Sofa Kings, we’ve made Royel Otis our official Artist Of The Week…

Ever since Royel Otis first burst onto the scene in 2020, they’ve proved they’re not here to fuck spiders. With the release of their debut EP, Campus, in 2021 and their breakout track, ‘Oysters In My Pocket’ the following year (off their sophomore EP ‘Bar N’ Grill’), the duo has gone from strength to strength.

In 2023 alone, they’ve been named ‘Ones to Watch’ by Apple Music 1’s Matt Wilkinson, scored Spotify’s latest RADAR Artist and triple j’s #1 Most Played track, while also being announced on Groovin the Moo’s 2023 touring lineup, and as supports for ALT-J’s upcoming Australian tour.

Now, off the back of the release of their third EP Sofa Kings last week, we’ve named them our official Artist Of The Week. A stellar third offering, Sofa Kings only proves the band have managed to sharpen their already-razor-edged songwriting tools across its seven tracks.

A collection of breezy, irresistible songs that delve further into their unique re-imagining of 2010s indie pop, Sofa Kings confirms Royel Otis are in a league of their own, with opening track ‘Kool Aid’ having already garnered an impressive 2 million streams on Spotify.

It’s set to be a busy few months for the band, with six Groovin The Moo dates across the country and a tour with Alt J (where they’ll be hitting up some massive venues including Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena) – all going down in April and May.

They’ll then be heading to the UK for some huge festival appearances, but not before they take their EP on the road for their biggest-ever headline tour in July. With performances at Melbourne’s The Gasometer, Wollongong’s La La La’s and Sydney’s The Landsdowne, they certainly won’t be shows to miss, so make sure you nab your tickets here before they’re gone.

In the meantime, Sofa Kings is out now via OURNESS. Grab your copy here
