In what could be a plot line wrenched straight out of an apocalypse movie, the world’s official Doomsday Clock has moved 10 seconds closer to 12, putting it at a mere 90 seconds from midnight.
It’s the first time the clock has moved in three years, and the clock now rests the closest to midnight it’s ever been. If you don’t happen to be familiar with the Doomsday Clock, midnight represents the point of total peril or annihilation.
The Doomsday clock is so mean like whose idea was it to just terrorize the helpless masses by reminding them that billionaires are getting closer than ever to wiping us all off the planet from the safety of their rural compounds and/or megayachts.

The clock was created in 1947 by a group of scientists (including Albert Einstein) named the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. At that point, the hands of the clock rested at a (mildly soothing) seven minutes to midnight. In 1991, at the end of the Cold War, the clock was the furthest from doomsday it’s ever been, at a very reassuring 17 minutes to midnight.
Speaking on the latest adjustment, atomic scientists cited Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as one of the main reasons, which they said greatly increases the chance of nuclear war (“by accident, intention, or miscalculation”), along with threats of disease, climate catastrophe and disruptive technologies.
Ok but who cares about the Doomsday Clock aside from the kickass name pic.twitter.com/gLmAB767I1

Now, with the clock sitting a precarious 1-and-a-half minutes away from total doom, let’s just hope there’s no more clock-wise movement any time soon. In the meantime, enjoy the memes.
