Each year, the FBi SMAC Awards celebrates the best in Sydney music, art and culture. This year, for the very first time, the ceremony was open to the public, with performances from Kobie Dee, Milan Ring, Optic Nerve and FBi Radio DJs.
With voting done by FBi listeners, the awards aim to recognise artists, venues and organisations that have significantly contributed to Sydney’s cultural landscape in the past year. Categories include Artist Of The Year, Next Big Thing, Best Live Act, Best Eats, Best Arts Program and SMAC Of The Year, presented to an individual or collective who has made an exceptional contribution to Sydney’s cultural fabric.
With so many incredible nominees, this year’s winners included the likes of producer, vocalist and interdisciplinary artist, Chun Yin Rainbow Chan; Redfern neighbourhood queer bar and creative space, The Bearded Tit; Sydney’s favourite A.P Bakery; and Australian rapper and Malyangapa/Barkindji woman, BARKAA, who cleaned up the night with two SMAC awards for her ARIA Top 10 record, Blak Matriarchy.
