Slipped through borders, then slipped through their fingers…

Five men have been arrested after a joint operation by the AFP seized a whopping 118kg of cocaine hidden- rather conspicuously- in giant metallic blocks. The drug-filled shipment, which was intercepted in 2019 and allegedly hails from a Mexican drug cartel (where else?), was distributed among some 80 ingots (FYI they’re block of metal). For those not doing the maths, these lofty figures collectively equate to a street value of up to $47 million, providing around 940,000 individuals bags.

The Sydney-based crew stored the consignment at a warehouse in Villawood, and hidden alongside the tightly-packed nose candy was an exxy collection of jewels, cash and electronic devices. A sixth man is set to face court in connection to the coked-up plot; and the collective arrest is set to “put a substantial dent in the drug trade in NSW and across the country,” Detective Superintendent Watson said.

Speaking further on the bust, Watson said that the quintet “see Australia as a lucrative market to target because of the high demand for drugs and the high prices users will pay.”
