If you’ve ever travelled across Sydney, odds are you’ve come across loveable protester Danny Lim at one point or another. Known for his socially conscious and poignant sandwich signs, Lim has become something of a community treasure over the last couple of years. It’s even gone so far as landing him on an album cover, with Sydney band Sticky Fingers recruiting Lim and his likeness for their latest LP, Lekkerboy.
So, it was understandable that Sydney was up in arms yesterday following footage of NSW police assaulting Lim surfacing online. The clip in question shows the 78-year-old being confronted by two officers before they attempt to arrest him and throw him to the ground, while Lim cries for help in response.
After, the officers involved can be heard asking “What’s wrong” and if can sit up, at which point we get a look at the gushing wound on his face. Thankfully, a bystander called an ambulance and Lim was quickly treated, however, he’s still in serious condition.

It’s not the first time, however, that Lim has been mistreated by police, with the serial protester arrested in 2019 for his infamous Tony Abbott sign. Similarly, the public outcry was deafening back then, with protests eventually being organised in Lim’s name. NSW police have now launched an investigation into his most recent assault. Check out the full extent of Lim’s injuries below and be sure to donate to his GoFundMe here to aid in his recovery.
